OUR CHRISTMAS EDITION
The six months since the last issue of
There were a number of very successful events.
A special thanks to all who so graciously give
of themselves throughout the year to make MBC run smoothly and efficiently.
The Staff and Management Committee of MBC wishes
everyone a Merry Christmas and relaxing festive season!!
SEISOENE
Ek kyk terug na ‘n jaar vol seisoene. ‘n
“ HE raises me up to more than I can be !!!”
Maak nie saak in watter seisoen
wat jy in my lewe kom saai. Vir elke personeellid, vir die harde werk. Vir elke
ouer, vir die gesindheid en deursettingsvermoë. Vir ons KONING, vir SY Genade!!
Mag julle fees seisoen, vol vreugde, vrede en Jesus-liefde
wees.

BLESSING YOUR SPIRIT |
|||
|
Ek
Ek was
In
our busy lives and schedules we often forget that the teachers and facilitators
at MBC play a major role in catering to the diverse needs of our children. Our children's
disabilities are only small parts of who they are and who they can be. We want them
to have the best opportunities to achieve their potential; with a richness of experience
and also a sense of delight. These individuals are our key in achieving this. Not
only do they teach our children knowledge and skills, but they are pivotal in creating
a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment.
To
all the staff at MBC, I salute you and encourage you to continue to innovate, to
take pride in your profession and to give the best possible education to the children
under your charge.

bid nie, of dalk is jy eenvoudig net ‘n treurige ouer?
My
nie.
so genees word is verseker so.

Child, I call your spirit to attention in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ. Listen as I read the Word of God to you.
Philippians
3:12-14: “….. I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus
took hold of me… forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward
in Christ Jesus.”
I
bless you with accepting the family in which God has placed you.
God
determined your birth order and placed you precisely where He wanted you to be.
He considered whether you should be placed in a large family or a small family.
God
knows whether you’ll be raised by your birth family or whether you will be
adopted into a second family. He thought through all of these details and has placed
you in the position necessary for you to possess your inheritance. In the Name of
The Lord Jesus Christ, I bless you! Amen.

Charlie
My
name is Charlie; I'm different to you
I
don't see the world the same as you do.
You
see a classroom and I see a chair
I
don't always notice what else is in there.
Too
much information keeps coming my way
It's
so hard to cope with, day after day.
You
show me so much that I don't always see
One
step at a time is the best thing for me.
Bright
lights and loud noises upset me so much
An
unusual smell or somebody's touch.
When
you look in my eyes and I'm looking away
I'm
not being rude if I don't hear what you say.
I'm
not being awkward; I'm just doing my best
I'm
striving so hard to be just like the rest.
The
times when you think I've not really tried.
If
only you knew how that hurts me inside.
I
want you to like me the way I like you
If
only you saw things from my point of view.
Your
life and my life both run parallel
Yours
seems like heaven, mine's sometimes hell.
Whenever
you're frustrated at the things that I do
Remember
You
could have been me and I could have been you.

Liewe pappa en mamma
Julle
Daar
is ‘n paar dinge wat ek graag wil hê julle moet weet:
Omdat
omdat ek dinge op my manier probeer ontdek.
Weet
Ek
geniet dit as ons dinge saam
Wees
asb geduldig met my as ek dieselfde boekies weer en weer wil lees en dieselfde dinge
oor en oor wil doen. Herhaling is belangrik vir my.
Ek
hou van maatjies: hulle leer my van omgee, leer my om my man te staan, om dinge
te deel en saam te speel.
O

ek
lief julle soooo baie

It’s
sad fact that many hyperactive children are never evaluated for chemical, nutritional
or allergic factors, nor are they treated nutritionally. Instead, when faced with
a child who had ADHD, most doctors typically write out a prescription for a habit-forming
amphetamine such as Ritalin or Concerta, which have many properties similar to those
of cocaine.

“Assebies
tog Jesus gesond maak.” Net dit, so ‘n eenvoudig opregte gebed.
Jesus

Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who works
in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
Our
Creator God has made everything. Nothing can be created without Him, and the
birth of each new life is the evidence of His continuing handwork and creativity.
Each
child He knits together in the womb bears His fingerprint. He rejoices in
designing, molding and shaping you. You are His creation and He is proud to
call you so.
In
the Dolphins class we have different kids. They love each other. We
see different things every day. Some things might seem small, others big,
but in our eyes all miracles!! We praise God for this!!!!
When
Matthew came to our school it was difficult for him to drink water from a glass,
but now, that problem is history, now he can drink form a glass all by himself.
Maya is very bright. She is saying new words every day, and can lay the table with
the place mats and serve other kids at the table. She is also trying to write
her name. Dineo is a new friend. This is the first time in her life that she attends
school. She couldn’t feed herself initially, but now she can hold a spoon
and feed herself. Shannon and Nathan are competing against each other; they both
try to answer the questions first. Christine likes to tidy up the class after every
activity. Ashleigh and Hannah have the best sense of humor! Amy always greets the
visitors first!! She’s a real charmer.
Merry
Christmas!
My
Dis verstommend hoeveel liedjies se woorde hy ken.
Zelmarie is baie hulpvaardig in registertyd.
siek is by die huis.
eet.

Dis ‘n ongelooflike ondervinding

In
o
Frans se hand is eerste op as daar
gevra word wie Tee wil drink.
o
Marilee en Frans ervaar die fyn humor
in ‘n situasie en begin onmiddellik lag. Hulle nuuskierigheid en reaksie op
alternatiewe kommunikasie is verstommend.
o
onvoorwaardelik liefde te gee, asof hy vra: kom in my wêreld in.
o
o
Dankie Vader
Thank you Father
o
Vir die kos en
nog baie meer
For the food and the many blessings Amen
Amen

The Beatitudes for Teachers of Exceptional Children
Blessed
are you who take time to listen to difficult speech,
For
you help us to know that if we persevere
We
can be understood.
Blessed
are you who walk with us in public places,
And
ignore the stares of strangers,
For
in your companionship, we find a haven of peace.
Blessed
are you who never bid us to “hurry up”,
And
more blessed are you
Who
do not snatch tasks from our hands
to
do them for us,
For
often we need time rather than help.
Blessed
are you who stand beside us
As
we enter new and untried ventures,
For
our failures will be outweighed
By
the times we surprise ourselves and you.
Blessed
are you who ask for our help,
For
our greatest need is to be needed.
Blessed
are you when you assure us,
That
the one thing that makes us individuals
Is
not our peculiar muscles,
Nor
our wounded nervous systems,
Nor
our difficulties in learning,
Nor
any exterior difference,
But
is in our inner, personal,

The Rise Of Ritalin
In
fact, using brain imaging techniques, Dr Nora Volkow of the Brookhaven National
Laboratory in
Despite
these findings, the flood of Ritalin prescriptions shows no sign of abating.
Ritalin is now given to up to 20 per cent of children in some American schools,
even though researchers looking at its effectiveness have found that it can worsen
the behavior of more children than it helps.
In
2004, prescriptions for Ritalin and other methylphenidate drugs had risen to 360,
000, at a cost of 12.5 million. That’s double the level prescribed
in 19999. And this is only one type of stimulant drug prescribed to children.
In the
It’s
thought that the calming effect of drugs like Ritalin and Strattera on hyperactive
children is because there is not enough of the neurotransmitter noradrenalin in
the part of the brain that is supposed to filter out unimportant stimuli.
Dr Joan Baizer at the
Dr
Peter Breggin, a psychiatrist at the
Nor
does Ritalin work over time. The US National Institutes or Health concluded
that there is no evidence of any long term improvement in scholastic performance
on Ritalin.
What
more, a child given Ritalin or other stimulant drugs is more likely to become addicted
to smoking and abuse other stimulant substances later in life, such as cocaine.
The long and short of it is – don’t accept a prescription for these
drugs on behalf of your child. Given the possible effect of Ritalin on noradrenalin
deficiency in the brain, it is interesting to note that magnesium plays a key role
in promoting the production of noradrenalin. And sure enough, the vast majority
of children are able to stop taking Ritalin after as little as three weeks once
they start supplementing 500mg of magnesium daily. While giving your child
up to 200mg of magnesium is perfectly safe, we don’t recommended larger amounts
unless you are under the guidance of a nutritional therapist.
Other
nutrients also involved in the production of noradrenalin include manganese, iron,
copper, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin B6, and many of these nutrients are also involved
in the proper metabolism of essential fats.
Despite
the tremendous results reported for nutritional approaches to ADHD, Ritalin is far
more commonly prescribed than supplements. Dr Bernard Rimland assessed the
relative efficacy of different nutrient strategies compared to drugs such as Ritalin,
and found that supplementing B6 and magnesium was 10 times more effective than Ritalin!
While
there is much you can do yourself ADHD is a complex condition. As such, it
really demands supervision and treatment by a qualified practitioner, who can devise
the correct nutritional strategy for your child. Your child’s supplement
requirements must be individually assessed, and they will need to follow an optimally
healthy diet. A minimum of three to six months will probably pass before you
see any substantial results, but you may well see a general slowing down from hyperactivity
and improved concentration in your child very quickly. As your child starts
to feel and behave better, the positive feed back they receive from their parents
and teachers can encourage them to stick to the nutritional programme long term
– which is what really produces the best results.
